Cavett Robert graduated from the University of Mississippi, or, Ole Miss in 1929, and his brother-in-law, who was President of Washington and Lee University encouraged him to come there and study Law, which would become his profession for the next 30 years. He was appointed judge in Lexington, Virginia, then got the opportunity to work in New York with District Attorney (future Governor and Presidential candidate) Thomas Dewey, investigating gangsters and racketeers. He then accepted a position with a law firm in Arizona and eventually was hired by Arizona Edison Power Company where he began speaking at churches, Lions Clubs, chambers of commerce and Toastmasters. His motivational speaking and training career began when he was the first entrepreneur to start selling pre-arranged funerals. After joining Toastmasters International he won the International Speaking Contest in his second attempt as well as winning the Golden Gavel Award from Toastmasters International, and Speaker of the Year by United Airlines and International Speakers Network.
