The power went out. Again! I looked out my second story office window and knew exactly why. I could hear the sounds throughout the morning. There was a crew of four men and three bucket trucks stringing power lines along the new poles they had been planting in the front and back yards of my neighborhood the past few weeks. Often, during this time, I would work on my laptop on the front porch and watch this professional teamwork in total synchronicity, moving from pole to pole in planned sequence. First, it was connecting the phone lines. Then, cable. Today, and finally, from the back alley, the... (Read More ...)

I have had to learn how to mother myself in this lifetime. I love my mother, more so these days than ever before, but for many years I felt like I got the short end of the umbilical cord. Like many of us, I didn’t get the movie mother in this lifetime, the tireless cheerleader, the fierce cub-protector, or the one who listened deeply to all my secret places and saw colors in me, I had yet to see. That mother was on back order when I was placing my cosmic selection. Instead, I got someone who hadn’t exactly read the manual, and I know now, deserved and needed a mother herself. But I have become... (Read More ...)

When you reach toward a dream, you reach toward your highest self-love. That means you leave “the one who can’t do it” behind. They won’t let you take your delusions on the rocket ship anymore. This is a path of shaking off the shackles, the status quo, the old sad stories about what you don’t have or can’t do and rising on your own self-love and instincts. Your magnificence knows no limits, so you will need to shed every single one of yours. It’s a magical, messy, sacred transformation, if you ask me. Still, the glimpse of something more will impel you to trust in something more.... (Read More ...)

Getting the A: I used to be the girl who needed to nab an A in every subject in school. I’d study what you wanted me to study—what grabbed your attention, not mine. That’s because I had no idea that chasing approval and “security” was keeping me from discovering my certainty and my power, my chance to create everything I’d ever wanted. But this is what I’ve come to learn again and again: You can’t chase approval and aliveness at the same time. Do you want to live someone else’s advice? Or do you want to live your birthright? An inspired life is the result of owning your own... (Read More ...)

You have no idea how strangely magical you are. Most of us could never imagine the fire and promise we hold. We live in a culture that tells us to be “realistic.” That means dampen our enthusiasms and compromise our vision. We are encouraged to bow to the known world, and shun our unknown powers. But that’s not why we’re here. We’re here to listen to our inspired hearts, spread our full peacock feathers, and awaken the invincible love inside us. We’re here to discover, express, and unleash our true capacity. When you follow inspiration, you follow an invitation... (Read More ...)

Using Your Wild and Beautiful Forces Traveling around the country, speaking, I feel the newness crackling everywhere. We are living in times of change. And each of us is a change-agent, whether we know it or not. The weather is changing. The economy is changing. And these are not the times to stand still. Settling will lead to chaos now. It’s time to make your contribution. Sing your song. Climb your mountain. Save your life. It’s show time. You were born for this time and now more than ever before, there is Unseen Support for you to do this. St Francis of Assisi said, “There are beautiful... (Read More ...)

“It’s lonely to follow your bliss,” said Deb, a student in a recent workshop. “Say more,” I asked, trying not to salivate. I confess it’s a topic near and dear to my heart lately. “I used to have all these friends. We’d eat, drink, and bitch about our lives. We’d tell stories of stupid co-workers, Cretan, evil bosses, you know,” she said. Of course, I remembered that. “Trading distressing stories like baseball cards– and suddenly, you have nothing ‘sexy’ to swap because you’re focused on your dreams now, not your setbacks,” I said. “Exactly,” said Deb. “But... (Read More ...)

In celebration of April Fool’s Day, I want to encourage you to be more “foolish” in your life. There is power in daring to be different. Great advances have never come from the conventionally minded among us, those who worship their data, never wear purple, and chastise the unknown. Change comes from us “madcaps” who obey the mandate to be alive — and chase the gleam of inspiration, the truth we know in our bones — more than the facts that are known. The world’s healers, industry leaders, artists and visionaries of tomorrow — are likely the... (Read More ...)
