American funnyman, Woody Allen, born Allan Stewart Konigsberg, began performing as a stand-up comic in the 1960’s, emphasizing monologues rather than traditional jokes. His career, spanning some six decades, earned him the Comedy Central ranking of fourth on a list of the 100 greatest stand-up comics. He began writing and directing films in the 1960’s, mostly slapstick in nature, and eventually Allen moved into writing and directing more dramatic films influenced by the artsy European films of the 1970’s. Cavett Robert¬†graduated from the University of Mississippi, or, Ole Miss in 1929, and his brother-in-law, who was President of Washington and Lee University encouraged him to come there and study Law, which would become his profession for the next 30 years.
