Cavett Robert¬†graduated from the University of Mississippi, or, Ole Miss in 1929, and his brother-in-law, who was President of Washington and Lee University encouraged him to come there and study Law, which would become his profession for the next 30 years. He was appointed judge in Lexington, Virginia, then got the opportunity to work in New York with District Attorney (future Governor and Presidential candidate) Thomas Dewey, investigating gangsters and racketeers.
